The uncluttered freehub that a reversed pawl system provides, allows a cartridge bearing to be used directly under the freehub drive ring (rather than an offset position that is commonly used in conventional pawl systems that cram the pawl mechanism into the relatively small diameter of the freehub itself.) The resultant reduction in offset torque transfer from the freehub reduces leverage effect on the axle and ultimately increases bearing durability.
