Aeroe Spider Rear Rack - fantastic!

"I was looking for a rear rack for a full suspension MTB. This is fantastic. I bough the extra two cradles so I can have three drybags and this gives me all the capacity I need. If it's of interest, they also do an attachment for the use of regular pannier bags. Thoroughly recommend this system. I have now trailed over 400 miles predominantly off-road and had no problems at all."

Spider Aereo rack

"Was recommended by a friend so seen in use. Not used mine in the different configuration yet but have no doubts it will do the job. Easy to fit. It says any dry bag will fit but you need straps on the bags to strap through otherwise they will slip out if on the sides due to gravity and bumps."

Very pleased-it is well designed.

"Having torqued all the bolts to 4nm and only loaded it with 7kg I have used it on a full-sus and a hard tail mountain bike so far with great success. Can’t see why it wouldn’t cope with at least double that weight especially if evenly loaded. Simple to adjust and set up-remember when assembling to put on the little clips that hook any panier to the side tubing."

Quality Product

"Experienced bike packer, has been a game changer for me, using dry bags in each cradle, but all together its on the high side in terms of pricing"

Pricey but probably worth it.

"After searching for a rack suitable for my particular application I decided to invest in the Aeroe spider rack, spare cradle and Handlebar cradle along with the 8 litre Aeroe dry bags. Initially I discounted this rack based on cost alone as it is expensive for what seems to be a bent piece of stainless steel tube but appears extremely well thought out so I bit the bullet so to speak. It is fitted to a hard tail, carbon framed All Road bike which I am using for an upcoming LeJog. Fitting of the spider rack was fairly straight forward, the main bar did need to be bent inwards to fit my frame (seat stays) by around 15mm and it took a little time to ensure it sat straight and square on the bike. Fitting was easy and straight forward, all that is required is a 5mm hex key and a little time. Although I have not yet done LeJog I have loaded the rack and bags for a shakedown test ride on a couple of occasions. Initially the bags on the side were angled back at 45 degrees but changed this after the first ride so that they are now in-line with the rear seat stays (45 degrees forward) which seems much more stable. If you do not use the Aeroe bags you may find that the bags slip down in the cradle as you cycle especially if covering rough or bumpy ground. The webbing straps are quick, easy and simple to use and seem to hold all but the heaviest loads securely. The top cradle seems slightly more wobbly than the sides but still holds everything secure especially if using the Aeroe bags which seem to be exceptionally good quality. I also purchased the Aeroe handlebar cradle but removed this after the first test ride. It made my bike feel horrible, very unstable and front heavy and would not stay fixed in position on even the smoothest of surfaces. It also induced a deathly speed wobble which was alarming!! In principal the design of the handlebar cradle is great but in practice not so great and needs some kind of stabiliser or bracket arrangement to prevent it bashing into your expensive carbon headset! It has now been adapted to fit the rear rack. It also takes up valuable space on your handlebars if you like to ride on the ‘flats’. Although expensive I would recommend the Aeroe dry bags with their inbuilt loops to prevent them moving around in the cradle, or by improvising with some kind of webbing cradle to prevent non-Aeroe dry bags slipping out of the bottom of the cradle. Overall I am impressed with the system (time will tell) and ease of use and would give it a good 8 out of 10. I believe it will give good long term service and be reliable with some spares being available from the manufacturers. Having said that I wish I hadn’t bothered with the handlebar cradle and simply invested in an additional spider cradle for the rear."

"Haven't used this rack for long but as a quick review I would say that it is well made. Just dont over-tighten the screws!"
