Which Campagnolo Freehub Body Do I Need?

1. Confirm your cassette brand and speed.
   Campagnolo freehubs are available for Campagnolo 9-13 speed, Shimano HG and Micro Spline 9-12 speed, and SRAM XDR 11-12 speed systems.
2. Check your axle size or hub standard.
   Older wheels use 12 mm steel axles, more recent wheels use 17 mm alloy axles, and the latest disc and gravel wheels use named hub standards such as BU015, BO015, HGA33, N3W, BU020 or XDRA.
3. Identify your wheel model and model year.

CPS70 (FH-BUU015) Campagnolo Freehub Body - 17 mm Axle

CPS70 uses the FH-BUU015 body and is the most widely used Campagnolo freehub body for wheels built with the 17 mm axle system. It accepts all Campagnolo 9, 10, 11 and 12 speed cassettes and is fitted to many mid to high end factory wheels produced from around 2008 onwards.

CPS71 (FH-BU015) Campagnolo Freehub Body - 12 mm Axle

CPS71 uses the FH-BU015 body and is the Campagnolo freehub body used on wheels with the earlier 12 mm axle system. It supports Campagnolo 9, 10, 11 and 12 speed cassettes and is commonly found on pre 2014 mid range wheelsets. Choose CPS71 if you are running a Campagnolo cassette on a narrow 12 mm axle hub.

FH-BUU015X1 is a Shimano HG compatible freehub body for Campagnolo wheels that use the 17 mm axle and 30 mm pawl system. It allows Shimano 10 and 11 speed cassettes to be used on Campagnolo wheels originally supplied in a Shimano version.

FH-BUU001 is a pack of five 1.8 mm spacers designed for Campagnolo HG11 freehub bodies. These spacers allow 8, 9 or 10 speed Shimano and SRAM HG cassettes to be used on Campagnolo 11 speed HG freehub bodies by taking up the additional width of the body.

CPS73 is most commonly used as the part number for genuine Campagnolo FH-RE114 wrap round freehub springs. These springs sit around the freehub pawls and provide the return force that makes the pawls engage and disengage correctly. They are spare parts for a wide range of Campagnolo and Fulcrum road wheels that use a wrap round spring rather than individual coil springs.

Campagnolo Freehub FAQ

How do I know which Campagnolo freehub body fits my wheel?

Start by confirming your cassette brand and speed, then check your axle size or hub marking. Most Campagnolo hubs have a code such as BU015, BO015, HGA33, N3W, BU020 or XDRA stamped or printed on the body. You can then match that code to the freehub bodies listed on this page. If you are unsure, remove your existing freehub and contact us with clear photos of the hub and freehub body.

Can I use Shimano cassettes on Campagnolo wheels?

Yes. Campagnolo produce Shimano HG compatible freehub bodies for many of their wheels. Freehub bodies such as FH-BU015X1, FH-BUU015X1, FH-BO015X1, FH-HGA33 and FH-HGA33USB allow Shimano HG road cassettes to be used, provided you choose the version that matches your axle or hub standard.

What is N3W and do I need a special cassette?

N3W is Campagnolo's latest freehub standard for 13 speed Ekar and modern road cassettes. N3W bodies are shorter than traditional Campagnolo freehubs, but with the AC21-N3W spacer and lockring kit they can also accept older 9, 10, 11 and 12 speed Campagnolo cassettes. For standard 13 speed use, fit the correct cassette directly to the N3W body.

What is the difference between standard bearings and USB bearings?

Standard Campagnolo freehubs use high quality steel bearings. USB versions use ceramic hybrid bearings that reduce friction and can roll more smoothly for longer, especially in wet conditions. For everyday riding a standard bearing body is more than adequate, while USB bearings are ideal for riders who want maximum performance.

Do I need extra parts when changing to an N3W freehub?

If you want to use 9, 10, 11 or 12 speed Campagnolo cassettes on an N3W freehub body you will need the AC21-N3W spacer and lockring kit. For 13 speed Campagnolo Ekar cassettes you fit the cassette directly to the N3W freehub body without spacers.
