More comfortable than the SR Allroad Core Pro on my gravel bike
"I wanted a new saddle for a gravel bike and having used Ergon for a number of years I decided to give them another go. I have an older SMC4 but could not replace this like for like as the style seems to have changed. Instead I went for a SF saddle but found this a bit uncomfortable on long rides (8 hours plus). I then tried a SR Allroad Core Pro but found this less comfortable than the SF. The 'Core' bit is supposed to add damping but the layer above this is really firm. Finally I got a SMC Sport Gel. With added 'Gel' I thought this might be a bit more forgiving than my original bottom of the range SMC4 which was very comfortable. I think the opposite is the case but it is still the best of the 3 Ergon new Ergon saddles I have tried and does seem to go the distance on multi-day rides. If you are only going out for a couple of hours the any of the three saddle would be fine but when you are cycling for a long time on consecutive days an uncomfortable saddle can become intrusive. In my younger days saddle choice did not seem to be so much of an issue. Although I do remember a tour on a Selle Italia Flite which I would rather forget. Every day after about 50 miles the saddle began to bore into my sit bones. 30 to 40 miles hovering over a saddle in the afternoon for 2 weeks is not much fun. This was back in 1990's and current Flite would be totally different. Oh well, you cannot go back in time."
